[#tamakaTravelLogue] #SiemReap #Cambodia

Date: 02 Feb 2018 Days: 2 Days 1 Night Currency: USD

img_20180203_1317201229456131.jpg

It was a rare morning because I woke up early, 0630 to be exact. Usually that would be my sleeping time on my weekend. I was browsing my #Instagram on my laptop. Then, a notification from #AirAsia popped in my screen. It was great deal.

So, I buzzed my close friends (Vanitha & Tulasi) in Whatsapp group flooding dozens of messages. I want an immediate response. I gave damn on their sleeping time.

This is good deal and I can’t let this go. We were planning a vacation. We wanted to out from the country but we do not know where to go. It’s hard to fix a place when you are kept counting the expenses. “Hence, this is definitely a great deal”. I said to myself.

Yeah!! I got responses. My friends were messaging me. We had two choice #Phuket and #SiemReap. After exchanging nonstop opinions, we chose #SiemReap only because of #Angkorwat. We really wanted to visit this temple.

I can’t wait any longer. I purchased the tickets for three of us together with an accommodation where the total cost is MYR1478.70 (2 Days 1 Night). That’s approximately RM493 per person. After months of discussion, this was a quick and an unplanned decision. We were so happy about it. Then, we have totally forgotten the trip until few days before the departure. One of us has to remind us. Well, that’s surely Vanita. She is a perfect planner. Then, we rushed to exchange currency and packed our bags in a day or two. “Bags are packed. I’m ready to fly” we exchanged Whatsapp message. Within a day, we were at airport around 0400 hugging each other for meeting after months.

1| Where we stayed

We stayed at hotel Angkor Voyage Villa at Sok San Road. It’s a three star hotel because we do not want to spend so much of money into hotel. Even though we had little dissatisfaction especially when it’s failed to reflect the expectation as displayed by Air Asia on their page, we are ok with it. The hotel is located in the middle of Siem Reap town. So, most of the places are within reach of walking distance around 5 minutes and quite safe. The receptionist or the care taker of the hotel (Ms Sofia) is so friendly tho. We became good friends and exchanged facebook IDs. Should I come back to Siem Reap, I planned to stay here again.

Rating: 3/5

img_20180203_142938337026219.jpg

2|First Day

We checked in then out to survey the nearby areas. This place is crowded with budget hotels, restaurants, food stalls, fish message, souvenirs shops, banks and tuk-tuks. There were uncountable alleys and the spaces are well used. Don’t be surprised if you found a hotel at aisle or ATM machine on the top of the drainage. The cables are overloaded and I’m not sure how they are maintaining it. It’s totally mesmerizing. WIFI is easily available at every restaurant. One thing is sure; this place is crammed by foreigners probably because a bottle of beer is just USD1. We visited the nearby museum and checked out the surroundings of the town.

img_20180202_112357356539604.jpg

When we returned to hotel, we purchased two days tour package recommended by Ms Sofia. Then, we followed the package arrangement and headed to floating village. It took almost an hour journey to reach the floating village by a van then to a boat. Alternatively, you can take tuk-tuk (please skip this on dry season) or taxi. It’s so hazy due to dry season until the driver only has 30% visibility of the road. Along the tour, we were been briefed by our young and handsome tour guy. Since it’s a dry season therefore the village is not flooded. Yet, it’s an incredible experience too because we got to walk the village where the ground is usually covered by water. After the village visit, we went to crocodile farm (that how they call it but the reality is they kept few crocodiles in a big net). This is where you will get to experience the floating restaurant. You can choose to have dinner here (expensive though, normal meal is between USD7 to USD11) or a short trip with small boat to visit the deep of mangrove forest. They charge you USD20 per boat which can accommodate 4 people. Then, we head to middle of #TonleSap Lake to enjoy the sunset. I got to know that Tonle Sap is a lake even though it is feels like sea. It’s huge. We have been told that once upon a time, they were so many crocodiles on this lake where now is none because most of it had been captured by locals for money. Since our boat has top deck, we took the top deck to enjoy the view. It was incredible experience. When the sun is down, we head back to town and reached our hotel around 0200. It was exhausting yet a great day.

Rating: 4/5

3| Second Day

As early as 0500, our tour guide picked us at our hotel entrance. Today is an exciting day because we are going to #Angkorwat. This is the main reason why we are here. We got to move as early as 0500 to witness the sunrise on the top of the Angkot. This is one of the MUST to do item if you visit Siem Reap. The entrance pass for four temple visit (#Angkorwat, #AngkorThom, #TaProhm, #BaYon) is USD20 p/person for a day. Keep you pass safely because if you lost it you have to repurchase it.

Around 0645 we are all ready waiting for the sunrise. Unfortunately, we couldn’t witness the rise because it’s too cloudy. Better luck next time. Once it’s bright, we started our tour covering the temples one after another with its history being briefed by our tour guy. I couldn’t imagine how they have built these amazing empires. This is too huge to digest. The entire history is surrounded within the conflict occurred between the #Hindu and the #Buddhist. Every time the temple is conquered by any of them the act of destroy and demolish the existence of the other took place. That’s make the history too deep even to dig. My favorite temple was #Angkorwat and #BaYon. I almost lost in #BaYon temple because it looks the same at every five entrance. The precision and perfection of architecture is mind blowing. We ended our tour with #LionGate and back to Siem Reap town around 0800. Then, we thank our tour guy and returned to our hotel to have an hour of good rest before exploring the night market.

The night market is just five minutes walking distance from our hotel. It’s UV light everywhere and so happening compared to day time. Every corner is flooded with goodies and foods. There were loud music with beers and vodka as it’s seems like heaven.

We have been told that the famous restaurant here is Kher Kitchen. You can check their menu here. Since it’s too crowded and people are queuing up for so long we opted to alternative. We were like walked almost every alleys looking for the best food. Finally, we settled down at this restaurant called D-town. You can check their menu, rating and comments here with some other recommended restaurants. We tasted the Siem Reap famous #Amok fish. It was so good that you can never get enough. Besides, we loved their mango salad. It was satisfying dinner.

Then, it’s a shopping time. In here, I guess night is the most suitable time to shop because it just a shopping heaven in here. There were so many goods and crafts. The cheapest is the V-neck cotton t-shirt that cost only USD1. No doubt, we bought plenty of t-shirts of all sizes. Besides, you can never get bored with their crafts and arts. I nearly lost on this world if precious #artworks. On that night, I have made a decision to come to explore all these amazing works. If you are fan if silk, this is the right heaven for you.

4| Fourth Day

I couldn’t believe that it’s time to pack up. We have decided to pack early so that we can spend the rest of the time to enjoy some nice foods before catching up our flight at 1400. We were so fascinated by the food so we took our lunch an hour right after the breakfast. We ordered plenty of dishes for our lunch at nearby restaurant. The plus point is every person who ate here had an hour of privilege of free fish massage. Since we have been too friendly to the restaurant owner we had an advantage of extra hours of the fish massage. How lucky we are.

Then, it’s time to head to airport. This time we decided to take tuk-tuk (USD9) just to experience it. It took us forty five minutes to reach the air port. After hours, we are back at our homeland #Malaysia around 1800.

It was a memorable journey to three of us. I personally made a decision to visit the place again because I’m not done yet. #SiemReap, you got me.

If you would like to read my other local travelling experiences, you can check it out here, here, here , here and here.

#Trees Are Our #Ancestors. Learn To #Respect Them

hdr

Every creature of the nature is deserved to be respected. So do the trees.

Don’t you think they are lived decades compared to us?

They have seen more than us. They have witness our histories. They have witness our daily life. They have witnessed our happiness, sadness, celebration, fights, loneliness and etc, etc, etc…

Aren’t they having the rights to live longer to tell the stories to our grandchildren? You bet.

Every tree is deserved to be protected and cherished with utmost respect.  They are our ancestors. Treat them well. Give them the respect and protection they deserve. They are giving you the oxygen to be alive for god sake.

It is so heartbreaking to see them being chopped unnecessarily in the name of development.

One tree; one house. Let’s seed our soul in them. Let’s protect them.

I think, “WE” the new generation are losing valuable things in the name of the technology and development. AND, it sad.

#Beware Of Your #SocialMedia Postings

I knew it’s your account, it’s your wall and who am I to say that?

But …

Remember!!! Your posts are public. You can be selective in your audience. The readers could be your own friend and relative but they always have an option to share it to public.

So, nothing “NOTHING” is your own when comes to social media.

So, stop posting 1001 pictures of your one day event, each and every inch of your uninteresting daily activities, nauseating throw of your son, disgusting close up of used diaper, uncomfortable perspective of your nose, horrible view of your pimples, blurred and not planned snaps and the list goes on.

[#tamakaTravelLogue] #RoadTrip 2018 #SimpangPertang #NegeriSembilan #Malaysia

Date: 01 Jan 2018                    Days: 2 Days One Night

It’s been a yearly routine for me to go on road trip on every New Year. So, far I have done it for pass three years. Hopefully, I can keep up to this annual routine.

This year I didn’t plan anything in advance until the last day of 2017. **Mind voice: it’s been like that every year. Initially, I planned to go to hometown but changed my mind. I knew I wanted to go to somewhere but I couldn’t fix any destination. Suddenly, the idea bulb popped out. Why don’t I visit my childhood places where I have been raised? It’s always been my lifetime goal and why don’t I take this as an opportunity? I had Renjok, Pahang & Simpang Pertang, Negeri Sembilan in my mind but I still couldn’t take that first step because the unknown fear of travelling alone conquered me.

***

Finally, I made myself brave and picked #SimpangPertang. I left this place when I was 11 years old. I only stayed here for about two years yet the memories are so fresh in my mind. I witnessed some of my life’s best and worse here.

I learnt my cycling, fishing, cadet, bird feeding, rubber tapping, hardworking, braveness, kindness, jealousy, revenge, harassment, poverty, family conflicts & etc etc… all here.

Looking back, how years had passed and some of the things remains unchanged especially, the trees, roads, houses, buildings. I literally couldn’t believe that I’m walking the same road after decades. It’s a strange feeling.

I wonder why I took decades to visit this place when it’s just an hour and half from #KLCity? Well, I can only laugh at my stupidity.

***

I found a small hotel (Simpang Pertang INN) within the town. I braved myself to book a room with an attached bathroom that cost RM80 p/night. A room with sharing bathroom is only cost RM60. It’s a big room that can easily accommodate 4 people. Two big balconies are a plus. You are also allowed to use the big hall (downstairs) and hotel’s facilities for free. It is built in an isolated residential area surrounded with nature with quite environment. If you are looking for a calm and slow kind of lifestyle environment to relieve your city life stress, this is the best with rating 4/5.

Luckily, they were having a eve celebration for the New Year organized by #BarisanNational (BN). So, I had an opportunity to witness their firework which is lasted more than 5 minutes and I’m impressed.

I visited my (used to stay) house, walked the roads, rounded the residential area, greeted the trees and chatted with few uncles and aunties. They laughed at me for visiting the place after so many years yet praised my braveness to do so.

***

The next morning, I walked the small Chinese town called #LadangPertang which I used to cross by to go a felda for a rubber tapper plantation when I was 11 years old. I also studied at the school located inside an estate named #SRJK(T)LadangPertang. I couldn’t find that felda & school tho.

I instantly fall in love with this small #LadangPertang town . This is my kind of place which interprets how a real life should be. A perfect place to retire. Rubber tapping and cultivation are still the main source of their income. #Durians are mainly cultivated here and transported to #Segamat (JB).  So, if you are buying Durians at Segamat, it’s mostly cultivated here. If you are asking, of course I tasted the fresh Durian on early morning and its super delicious.

***

After hours of rounding, I kissed good bye and left the place with big heart. My heart says “I should come back”. & I WILL.

[#BettaFish] The Blue Eye “Neelakannan” My First Pet Ever

In case if any of you wondering why I am not talking or posting about “Neelakannan” the #BettaFish and worrying about him… [OK, let’s cut the crap and back to reality, I knew none of you would have thought the way I said above] he is at his OWN world now.

Since I broke his expensive aquarium (lol, only $7); I couldn’t witness his pain in small FIFA word glass cup. I took full responsibility of his pain. So, I decided to clear my sin.

I gave him the FREEDOM he ever needed. I drove him to my hometown on past #Deepavali2017 and released him in Perak’s longest river called #KintaRiver at #Perak.

I don’t know where he is now and what he will be doing right now. But, I wish him safe and happy life ever after.

At times, I felt that he had chosen me to gain his freedom. Initially, I have selected different fish but somehow I picked him to pay.

I always had this sadness inside me to bring him to my workstation. That supposed to be the original plan. I thought he will be alone and lonely at night after working hours. I thought none will be there to feed him on weekend and he had to hold his hunger until Monday.

I felt responsible when I feed him excessively. I felt guilty conscience when I forgot to feed him.

Having a pet is a commitment. It’s a responsibility. YES. It is. I salute all of you who are having a pet.

Even though, he lived only less than 30 days with me; I truly miss him. I used to watch and admire him at evenings under the sun rays. It’s evening now and I miss you.

Bye Bye #Neelakannan

Happy Friendship Day

[Many of my writings are remains as draft as I couldn’t find time to proof-reading before posting. My apology for the delay but I guarantee you will enjoy the content and the logic of it 🙂 ]

Image-20171002_174914[1]
Drawing by @ (IG)

“Friend” who introduced the word to us? When do we learn the meaning of this word? How do we know “the one” is our friend? When do we start to address them as a friend? Do we know the real meaning of friendship? How long it stays with us? Do we still bother about the one we used to call as a “friend”?

How long a friend can stay as a friend? How long the friendship stays as friendship before it’s disappear and fade away leaving no traces.

I’m sure we have come across a lot of people in our life. Only 10% out of them become our friend. Yet, we only allowed few of them to be close to us.

Now my question is, how long does the friendship last longer?

Remember, friendship is like a tree. You need to take care and nurture it with water and fertilizer to keep it healthy and grow. If you have stopped nurturing, it will die even before you realise it.

NOW, ASK YOURSELF. How many of you are taking that concise care to nurture your friendship? Does it make it to your priority list? If it is not, I tell you what, there is no point of having this friendship because it will die anyway. One day, it will go far away and you can’t even trace memory of it.

SO, if you are gifted with few good friends, learn to appreciate them. Make time to nurture your friendship so that you can always sail in the FRIEND-ship while living your very own life.

Trust me; it’s only possible if it is in your priority list. I know where I am; I’m working hard to be in priority list. If I can’t make it, I know I have died trying.

#HappyFriendshipDay My Friends.
